Yoga and Meditation
Yoga is a complex system of physical, mental, and spiritual practices or disciplines, which originated in ancient India with a view to attain a state of permanent peace. Yoga practice provides the means to gradually achieve the mind and body purification, self-awareness, increased lucidity and clarity of mind, progressively changing the mind from the state of distraction to the one of attention and direction, and allowing us to discover our true inner being. Apart from the spiritual goals and the mind-oriented benefits, the physical postures of Yoga – when practiced correctly, together with mindful breathing exercises – are proven to alleviate health problems, reduce stress, strengthen the muscular system, improve joints mobility, make the spine supple and flexible, and maintain a general state of wellbeing and vitality.
Meditation is a practice of training the mind or inducing a mode of consciousness. Meditation has a calming effect and directs awareness inward until pure awareness is achieved. Meditation has been practiced since ancient times as part of numerous traditions and beliefs. Meditation often involves an internal effort to self-regulate the mind in some way, and it may take an active form – such as keeping awareness in the daily life activities as a form of mind-training and discipline.
